Custom Home Building continues to see growth in Abilene. Homebuyers know what they desire in their new home and are open to “is this doable” and “what are the costs”. There has evolved an approach to the custom homebuilding process that is worthy of review.

The financial process should be in place first. Homebuyers visit with their lending institution to learn the dollar amount they qualify for and establish their budget.

Next is property, whether it be an interest in one lot or several acres. This can be property that the homeowner already has in possession or can be incorporated within the total costs of the project.

Then, the house plan—this vital step can take some time…a few weeks to several months. We have someone who drawn plans for our customers…we appreciate the personal touch this gives with much attention to design, detail, lifestyle and natural surroundings of the property where the home will be constructed.

While the home is “evolving” through the design and drawing phase, specifications are being noted; ex. roofing and exterior materials, countertops, flooring, appliances, windows, etc. all the aspects that will compose this home.

Once these four steps are complete, the builder will be able to give a proposal of the costs of construction and a contract can be draw between the builder and the homeowner.

Construction can now begin!
